How to Wipe out Mice In the Attic

Rodents are more than a nuisance. Mice and rats can cause serious and costly damage to homes and commercial buildings by chewing electrical wiring, contaminating insulation and any surface they urinate or leave droppings on, mice damage stored materials, and create fire and health hazards. In established populations one treatment may not be enough, I constantly end up in houses that could have avoided a lot of damage with another dose of rodenticide.

Two of my most commonly used professional rodenticides are —Final Strike and Contrac— they play an important role in effective rodent control when applied correctly and the stations are refilled annually. Understanding how these products work, and why professional installation of rodent stations is critical, can help protect your property from long-term damage. Final Strike Rodenticide contains the Active Ingredient: Difethialone.

Final Strike is a powerful single-feed anticoagulant rodenticide designed for interior rodent control. It is commonly used in secure bait stations placed in controlled indoor environments such as attics, mechanical rooms, and other low-traffic areas where rodents travel. Difethialone works by interfering with blood clotting after ingestion. Because it is highly effective, rodent populations can often be controlled with minimal treatments when bait placement and monitoring are done properly. This makes Final Strike especially effective for established mouse infestations in attic spaces where rodents are nesting and traveling along beams and insulation.

The other Rodenticide I use Contrac contains a different Active Ingredient: Bromadiolone 0.005%. Contrac is another professional-grade anticoagulant rodenticide, most often used in exterior perimeter bait stations (Rodent Force Field under booking). These stations are designed to control rodents before they gain access to a building. By placing Contrac in tamper-resistant stations around the exterior foundation, rodent pressure is reduced at the source. This outdoor control strategy is critical because it prevents mice and rats from ever entering attic spaces, walls, and living areas. (when mice are already present inside in the attic and or other spaces Final Strike is used, and kills them faster but isn’t allowed outdoors.)

Final strike doesn’t hold up in wet conditions, so Contrac is particularly effective as part of a long-term maintenance program where stations are regularly inspected and rebaited as needed.

Professional Rodent Station Setup Is Critical. Using rodenticides without a proper strategy can lead to poor results, ongoing infestations, and unnecessary risks. A professional rodent control program focuses on three key elements: Correct placement of bait stations, Proper Crop Pest Techs understand rodent behavior and travel patterns. Attic bait stations are placed along runways or on beams and other structural edges where mice naturally move, while outdoor perimeter stations are positioned near gutter downspouts, or near trees that touch the house, this is to intercept as many rodents before entry. Rodenticides must always be placed inside approved, tamper-resistant bait stations outdoors and in living spaces. This protects people, pets, and non-target wildlife while ensuring rodents can access the bait safely.

Exclusion and prevention is key and entry points are searched for during every visit. Baiting alone is great but sealing them out entirely is even better. Sealing entry points larger than 1/4 inch, repairing gaps, and addressing structural vulnerabilities are essential to preventing reinfestation. Proper Crop will identify and address these access points we can find and are capable to fix during the service. Preventing Serious Damage to Your Home or Building Rodents can cause thousands of dollars in damage long before they are seen. Chewed wiring, destroyed insulation, urine contamination, and hidden nesting activity are common in untreated infestations.

A PROPER CLEAN PEST FREE ATTIC

By combining interior attic bait stations using Final Strike, exterior perimeter stations using Contrac, and proper exclusion work, Proper Crop rodent control program stops rodents at multiple levels. This integrated approach not only eliminates current activity but also provides long-term protection for your property. If you are hearing noises in your attic, seeing droppings, or noticing signs of rodent activity around your building, early professional intervention is the most effective way to prevent serious and expensive damage.
